It was a day for friendlies and qualifiers all over most of Europe and CONCACAF, but for our players, they were only involved in friendlies and this is how they fared with their countries.
Walcott & Wilshere (England 2-1 Brazil)
Theo Walcott played over 70 minutes for England and got several good looks at goal. He was involved in both goals. The first goal, his shot came off Cesar which allowed Rooney to stroke home. The second goal, after teasing Adriano, his cross was laid on to Lampard by Rooney who made it 2.
Wilshere was the star man on the night, he gave away the harshest penalty ever but Ronaldinho missed. He then took the game by the scruff of the neck and delivered a great performance. He went home with the man of the match award. He played the whole game.
Thomas Vermaelen (Belgium vs Slovakia)
The Arsenal captain was given the night off as he spent the entire game on the bench.
Koscielny, Podolski, Sagna , Mertesacker (France 1-2 Germany)
The quartet of players started the game but Koscielny and Podolski failed to finish the game. Podolski played 68 minutes and had a good battle against Sagna. Mertesacker had a solid game and saw his header come off the upright and then made a great last second block to earn Germany the win.
Sagna had a better night and was involved throughout. Koscielny made way at halftime with what might be a knock and France conceded 2 without him.
Cazorla & Nacho Monreal (Spain 3-1 Uruguay)
Cazorla started the game and went off after 71 minutes with no goal/assist. Nacho came off the bench to play the last 12 minutes. Former gunner, Fabregas was the star on the night.
Tomas Rosicky (Turkey 0-2 Czech Rep)
The Czech man played 74 minutes and came out unscathed. Hopefully he gets to play vs Sunderland this weekend.
Wojech Szczesny. Ireland 2-0 Poland
The Arsenal #1 played just 45 minutes and conceded only one of the 2 goals.
That’s all the players we had in action yesterday and apart from minor knocks to Koscielny, everyone came out unscathed. Wilshere and Walcott certainly had the best games of any of our players. Mertesacker and Koscielny too.
Before I go, Congratulations to the Super Eagles Of Nigeria on making the finals of the on going AFCON where they will face Burkina Faso after seeing off the challenge of Mali with ease. Mikel Obi was the chief architect and supplied the ammunition for Victor Moses & Emenike to help create the goals. Congrats, bring home the trophy for us.
Do have a nice day. Cheers.
