Hello out there. I’m still recovering from Nigeria’s unfortunate 1-1 draw with Burkina Faso at the ongoing AFCON 2013 in South Africa, a match played on a hideous pitch with the Eagles wearing an equally hideous looking jersey against hideous looki…
Right, the Arsenal. While we prepare for our game in hand against the Hammers, a must win match (along with every match afterwards till Wenger gets his ‘trophy’), it’s been buzzing on the transfer front.
The £30m fog has come up again and contrary to earlier speculation that the club put a bid of that figure in for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, the player in question is said to be Mario Götze.
While there’s nothing solid on that yet (there never really is with these speculations), word is the club has ‘met the buy-out clause’ of the player and le Prof went off to Germany to convince said player about coming over.
Why would Götze want to leave Borussia Dortmund? European football? Obviously not! A better league? The Bundesliga is on an ascendency. More money? At… Arsenal? The lure to play with BFG and iPod? Well… there’s that. iPod especially.
And all that’s said without hammering on the fact that we’ve never spent above £20m on one player. All of a sudden, £30m is good to go? I want to believe, for nine more days anyway.
Onto Andrei Arshavin, whose gone Bieber on us with the hair. The petite Russian, who rejected a loan move to Reading earlier, remains on god’s giveaway list apparently.
On one hand, he may be offered to Bastia along with €5m for Bastia’s 19 year old starlet Florian Thauvin and on the other hand, Celtic have made an enquiry about him with a view to take him on loan till the end of the season.
Still with the Scottish champions, Wenger is pondering to move for their 21 year old Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama to help give our midfield a stronger spine.
Who knows, we could get more spine from Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa who apparently didn’t turn up for his medical at Newcastle United.
Away from the speculations, Theo Walcott believes players at the club lack confidence in their abilities and need to start believing in themselves, ultimately in order to get the club further up the league table.
In his words, “We’ve got some very good players at this club. I think players are maybe not believing they are good enough. Trust me, I see them every day in training and they should believe that.”
“We’ve got a game in hand but we need to clock up these points fast. Teams get better every year. We don’t want to be standing still. We need to make sure that we’re right up there at the end of the season.”
“Champions League football and competing [for honours] means a lot. It’s one of the main [reasons] why I signed because I feel we should be there. I still think we will. We’ll be fine.”
Happy he has title ambitions with the club and even happier he recognises that teams get better every year, hopefully the other players will step their games up as well as Theo has been doing in recent seasons.
That’s the bit from us today. Our wingman Gervinho will be in action today for Cote D’Ivoire as the Elephants open their Group D account against Emmanuel Adebayor’s Togo.
Here’s wishing Head a good outing there.
I leave you with this take on what Stan Kroenke stands to gain if he ever sold his stake in the club. Found it interesting and thought I’d share.
Have a great day wherever you are then.

if FIFA have a tourment for talking my dear Mr wenger will be best who can only no how to talk,he will make a record and nobody able to break his record
Lol!
How can you say that Nigerias game was played on a hideous pitch? The pitch is on a par with any world wide – it was a SWC2010 stadium. Rather blame Nigerias lack of ability. You as a Arsenal supporter are sounding just like our coach,”ITS THE PITCH,ETC” come on ,the teams just not good enough. Under the current conditions we will be hard pressed to attract genuine class which is a worrying thought as we clearly lack it in a big way!
But… I never said anything about the Nigerian team yesterday being world class. Plus, there’s more to a great playing surface than it being green enough. Besides, the World Cup was three years ago… pitch may not have been maintained well
R u South-African? Then I can understand you getting defensive.. Hideous pitch? YES, everyone could see except you. But I’m sure the Super Eagles are a million times more world class than Bafana Bafana (no matter howmany times u repeat the word bafana) and many other Afcon teams with due respect to Ghana and Ivory coast.
Nigeria played well, the pitch felt like someone shipped some sand from d sahara and dumped it on the pitch.. Really Sandy.
hey fuck u bro.. i’m nigerian, born nd livein europe but love my country nd dat team dos have quality, d ref was so biased nd dat red card was nva a red in a million uears.. dey culda nd shulda won that game but in d end they messed up.. nd the pitch was of bad quality soo b4u open ur asshole, think bitch!!!
good news about gotze if its true and we can get him!
hhh
nigerians complaining about s.a stadium? how many decent or world class stadiums in nigeria? s.a is best equipped to host any tournament football, rugby, cricket and many other sports! tell me which other african country can do that? i have seen the past africa nations cup i have seen worst stadiums nothing compared to south african ones!! fact
“What does it profit S/A to have all the ‘best stadia’ in Africa yet not win more trophies than Nigeria?”
LOL.. For some minutes, I really thought S/A was playing against Spain or Brazil in the opening match, until I realised it was Cape-verde… They seem to struggle with every team in their world class stadia..
Do you watch the African Champions league? I doubt. Egypt, Tunisia can both host any tournament in the world, perhaps S/A is more politically positioned to host them.. Now that’s a FACT
i beg make una tell me who aw won buy.
Lol, we can tell you who he’s NOT buying… Wilfried Zaha. Who he wants to buy, only he knows.
Its pretty hard to dream or have big expectations these days as fans of AFC.. I leave it till when I wake up in the morning of Feb 1
Aye!
If we got Gotze AND Cavani, oh my gosh I think I’d have an accident in my pants. But I’d take either 1 of them, probably rather Cavani as we need a striker more. But a midfield of Wilshire, Cazorla and Gotze? Oh my goodness.
infact you don’t understand?.mario gotze is an arsenal fan,and a friend to per and like offensives ftball arsenal play.having won fight for poldoscky, friend to gotze on the way hummels these are arsenal fan die heart.stop being shacken wait to see also cavani and wanyama.
lts wait till feb.1. Bt if notin happen i dnt C arsenal in champ’s league nxt season.
we need a bloody striker who can finishH! Giroud has at least cost arsenal 3 victories because he fails to take his 1-on-1 opportunities. hes a liability with his feet that his heading is better. i just dont know why we w never signed ba?
great
