Wenger in Germany for £30m Player|”Players Lack Self-belief”

Hello out there. I’m still recovering from Nigeria’s unfortunate 1-1 draw with Burkina Faso at the ongoing AFCON 2013 in South Africa, a match played on a hideous pitch with the Eagles wearing an equally hideous looking jersey against hideous looki…

Right, the Arsenal. While we prepare for our game in hand against the Hammers, a must win match (along with every match afterwards till Wenger gets his ‘trophy’), it’s been buzzing on the transfer front.

The £30m fog has come up again and contrary to earlier speculation that the club put a bid of that figure in for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, the player in question is said to be Mario Götze.

While there’s nothing solid on that yet (there never really is with these speculations), word is the club has ‘met the buy-out clause’ of the player and le Prof went off to Germany to convince said player about coming over.

Why would Götze want to leave Borussia Dortmund? European football? Obviously not! A better league? The Bundesliga is on an ascendency. More money? At… Arsenal? The lure to play with BFG and iPod? Well… there’s that. iPod especially.

And all that’s said without hammering on the fact that we’ve never spent above £20m on one player. All of a sudden, £30m is good to go? I want to believe, for nine more days anyway.

Onto Andrei Arshavin, whose gone Bieber on us with the hair. The petite Russian, who rejected a loan move to Reading earlier, remains on god’s giveaway list apparently.

On one hand, he may be offered to Bastia along with €5m for Bastia’s 19 year old starlet Florian Thauvin and on the other hand, Celtic have made an enquiry about him with a view to take him on loan till the end of the season.

Still with the Scottish champions, Wenger is pondering to move for their 21 year old Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama to help give our midfield a stronger spine.

Who knows, we could get more spine from Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa who apparently didn’t turn up for his medical at Newcastle United.

Away from the speculations, Theo Walcott believes players at the club lack confidence in their abilities and need to start believing in themselves, ultimately in order to get the club further up the league table.

In his words, “We’ve got some very good players at this club. I think players are maybe not believing they are good enough. Trust me, I see them every day in training and they should believe that.”

“We’ve got a game in hand but we need to clock up these points fast. Teams get better every year. We don’t want to be standing still. We need to make sure that we’re right up there at the end of the season.”

“Champions League football and competing [for honours] means a lot. It’s one of the main [reasons] why I signed because I feel we should be there. I still think we will. We’ll be fine.”

Happy he has title ambitions with the club and even happier he recognises that teams get better every year, hopefully the other players will step their games up as well as Theo has been doing in recent seasons.

That’s the bit from us today. Our wingman Gervinho will be in action today for Cote D’Ivoire as the Elephants open their Group D account against Emmanuel Adebayor’s Togo.

Here’s wishing Head a good outing there.

I leave you with this take on what Stan Kroenke stands to gain if he ever sold his stake in the club. Found it interesting and thought I’d share.

Have a great day wherever you are then.
