Interest in French midfielder confirmed | Diame wants to join, apparently.

Top of the morning ladies and gents. It’s usually quite difficult to top a weekend that sees Spurs lose and Arsenal win. Moreso if it had the opposition fans chanting “You’re just a sh*t team near Arsenal!” Golden!

I was down with a fever all weekend so I didn’t see the game, but I read/heard Giroud did well and our defence was poor again; the major culprit being Andre Santos. He’s not having the best of seasons, is he?

While I understand the frustration at a player’s performance (or lack of), it is a shame to see the amount of abuse Santos got after he tweeted he just returned from injury and is happy to be playing again.

I honestly do not get the logic behind mentioning a player’s twitter handle in an abusive tweet. Does it help the player/club? We are better than this. Honestly. It should be the Spuds fans doing this, not supporters of The Arsenal.

On to more exciting stuff then shall we? Bastia chairman claims Arsene contacted him concerning French midfielder Florian Thauvin. We have been linked with a move for the 20-year old for a couple of weeks, with a fee around £4.3m suggested.

I honestly don’t know what Arsene’s plan is here, seeing as an attacking midfielder (albeit a 20-year-old unknown) is the least of our needs at the moment.

We are gifting goals to the poorest of opposition and finding it difficult to get goals against the top opposition. A proper defensive midfielder and a quality striker will go a long way in fixing those issues I should think.

But Arsene already knows this. Or wait, does he? He looks to be messing around with his comments as usual. On whether or not we need a striker,

“Quality-wise no, number-wise, we could be a bit short maybe. Gervinho is not here at the moment. We have Walcott who can play through the middle and then of course Giroud.”

Comments like this from a manager who sees us in 5th place make me sad. If Arsene believes Gervinho, Walcott and Giroud will be good enough to secure his favoured top 4 finish, then I don’t know what else to think or say.

To make matters worse, he threw in his mantra:

“You do not find them in the street, the strikers that can play for us and strenghten our team. It’s difficult in January.”

Don’t be ridiculous, Arsene!

Surprisingly, Dailymail says Diame has told his friends he wants to join Arsenal. Apparently he’s trying to force a move and this angered Fat Sam. His release clause is £3.5m and that could turn out to be a bargain.

Diame or Thauvin? I know who I’d go for.

That’s about everything there is for today. Liverpool lost their FA Cup game to Oldham too, and if anything it makes me appreciate our victory the more. We play Blackburn at home in the 5th round. A win is guaranteed surely?

We host Liverpool in a few days though, another game we must win to keep alive our hope of a top 4 finish. Suarez aside, they haven’t been impressive this term and the fact that they’re so close to us on the table only highlights how poor we have been.

We beat them at Anfield, we should be smashing them at home. Trust Arsenal to serve up a dramatic game.

Worryingly the transfer window closes in 4 days. Not much time to conclude deals to bring players in.

One can only wonder and wait to see what tricks Arsene has under his sleeves. My bet is he’s got nothing but the usual. Nothing.
